About Arbitel R 40 mg/5 mg Tablet

RAMIPRIL+TELMISARTAN belongs to a group of medications called ‘antihypertensives’ used in the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). High blood pressure is a chronic (long-term) condition in which blood pressure is elevated persistently in higher than normal levels. If left untreated, this condition can increase the risk of heart-related diseases like heart attack, heart failure, stroke, irregular heartbeat and other complications.

RAMIPRIL+TELMISARTAN contains Telmisartan and Ramipril. Telmisartan is an angiotensin-II receptor blocker (ARB). Angiotensin narrows the blood vessels increasing the blood pressure, therefore blocking angiotensin can result in widening of the narrowed blood vessels. Ramipril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor and works by lowering the body’s production of substances (angiotensin) that could increase blood pressure. Together, RAMIPRIL+TELMISARTAN allows the blood to flow more smoothly in the blood vessels.

Hypertension

RAMIPRIL+TELMISARTAN is used in the treatment of hypertension and essential hypertension (that doesn't have an identifiable cause). It works by lowering the body’s production of substances that could increase blood pressure and also widens narrowed blood vessels. It allows the blood to flow more smoothly in the blood vessels. It can reduce the risk of heart failure, stroke and delay worsening of kidney problems. It can also be given as a treatment for chronic heart failure.

Directions for Use

RAMIPRIL+TELMISARTAN is available in the tablet dosage form. Tablet: The dose and duration of the medicine are determined by the doctor. Swallow the tablet as a whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew or break it. Take the medication at a fixed time every day for better results. Take this medicine at the same time every day for the best results.

• Sinus pain and congestion

• Hypotension (abnormally low blood pressure), especially when you stand or sit up quickly

• Muscle cramps
• Hyperkalemia (increased potassium levels in the blood)

Drug-Drug Interaction:

RAMIPRIL+TELMISARTAN may interact with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (ibuprofen and indomethacin), pain killer(aspirin), medicines used for the treatment of low blood pressure, shock, cardiac failure or allergies (ephedrine, noradrenaline), medicine used to treat long-term heart failure (sacubitril,valsartan), medicine that suppress immune system (ciclosporin, sirolimus and everolimus), water pill (furosemide), medicines which can increase the amount of potassium in your blood (spironolactone, triamterene, amiloride, trimethoprim and trimethoprim, sulfamethoxazole), blood thinner (heparin), steroid medicine (prednisolone), medicine to treat gout (allopurinol), medicine to treat heart rhythm problems (procainamide), antibacterial (co-trimoxazole), medicine used to treat cancer (temsirolimus), antipsychotics, medicine used to treat type 2 diabetes (vildagliptin and insulin), medicine used to treat diarrhea (racecadotril), medicine to treat high blood pressure (aliskiren), medicine used to treat heart diseases (digoxin) antidepressant (lithium).

Safety Advice

ALCOHOL

It is not advised to consume alcohol while taking RAMIPRIL+TELMISARTAN as it can increase dizziness.

 

PREGNANCY

It is not recommended to take RAMIPRIL+TELMISARTAN while you are pregnant (especially during the second and third trimesters) as it may be harmful to the unborn baby.

BREAST FEEDING

It is not recommended to take RAMIPRIL+TELMISARTAN while you are breastfeeding as it may cause harmful effects on the nursing baby.

DRIVING

RAMIPRIL+TELMISARTAN may cause dizziness, so do not drive or operate heavy machinery if you feel dizzy.

 

LIVER

RAMIPRIL+TELMISARTAN should be given with caution in patients with a history of liver diseases.

KIDNEY

RAMIPRIL+TELMISARTAN should be given with caution in patients with a history of kidney diseases.
